Newbold Quarry Sand & Gravel Plant

Control System for Lignite Plant

Due to the high Lignite content found in the sand & gravel in some area's of Newbold Quarry, Aggregate Industries have invested in a state of the art Lignite removal plant which was supplied by SiebTechnik GmbH.  Acorn Process Controls were tasked with integrating the new Lignite plant into the existing Allen Bradley Sand & Gravel Plant control system.

SiebTechnik supplied their own control system for the Lignite removal process whilst Acorn provided control for the screens, pumps, water tanks, diverter chutes and conveyors.  A fibre-optic link was installed from the Main Plant PLC panel to the new Lignite MCC, and remote I\O hardware was installed to transfer digital and analogue signals between the systems.

An Ethernet link was installed between the SiebTechnik Modicon PLC and the Allen Bradley PLC to allow communications and interlocks between the two plants.  A 4G Router was also installed to allow remote access to all parties.

Local plant control is via an Allen Bradley Touchscreen HMI mounted in the MCC door and the new plant was also integrated into Newbold Quarry's existing Wonderware InTouch SCADA system located in the quarry main control room.
